Beyond Botox: Discovering Evidence & Clinically Backed Hyperhidrosis Treatments

by Erica Jago |

Before considering Botox: Explore First-Line Treatments for Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can pose a unique set of challenges that can affect an individual's quality of life. From damp clothing and persistent skin irritation to social anxiety and diminished self-confidence. The frustrations associated with this condition are relentless and often deeply personal.

One commonly discussed method for treating hyperhidrosis is the use of therapeutic Botox (Botulinum toxin type A) injections.

While repeat Botox injections have shown effectiveness in reducing sweating, especially in specific areas, it's crucial to be aware of potential risks and side effects associated with the treatment. Only a doctor can prescribe these injections, and they should be administered by a qualified healthcare professional. Botox treatments are typically done privately and may require costly repeat sessions.

If you're seeking a life free from excessive sweating without relying on routine and potentially expensive Botox injections, there are clinically proven alternatives that should be considered first. These alternatives offer effective solutions for managing hyperhidrosis without Botox.

Enter SWEAT GUARD: Your Science-led Solution!

A UK based company invested in providing science-led, clinically backed first-line treatments for Hyperhidrosis. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) in the UK provides guidelines for the management of hyperhidrosis.

Summarising the NICE - guidelines:

  1. First-Line treatments which are topical over the counter, clinical strength (aluminium salt based) antiperspirants and iontophoresis.
  2. Second-line treatments include Botulinum toxin type A injections and systemic oral medications, but these may have more side effects than other treatments.
  3. Third-line procedures are surgical procedures and include endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) or localised resection of sweat glands. These should only be considered if first-line and second-line treatments prove to be ineffective. SWEAT GUARD provides first-line treatments and clinically backed ancillary supporting products,

The Botox Route: Pros, Cons, and Cost for Hyperhidrosis Treatment

The Botox Route: Pros, Cons, and Cost for Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Botox, or Botulinum toxin, type A is a neurotoxic protein. When injected in small, regulated quantities, the toxin works by blocking the nerve signals responsible for activating the sweat glands in the treated areas. Sweat glands are instructed by these nerves to produce sweat, for instance, when the body temperature rises. However, in cases of hyperhidrosis, these nerves may be overactive. Botox, therefore, can act as a roadblock, stopping these signals and‌ reducing sweat production.

While Botox injections can be an effective treatment for excessive sweating, they are not without potential side effects and risks. Adverse effects include pain during injections and compensatory sweating. Transient muscle weakness and loss of fine motor control have also been reported.

As per the HSE website, Botox is not a permanent solution for hyperhidrosis; the effects last from 6 to 9 months, repeat sessions are necessary to maintain the effectiveness of the treatment. This can lead to a significant financial commitment and potential inconvenience. Outside of the NHS, single treatments can cost several hundreds of pounds to help manage hyperhidrosis

Finding Relief: Consider Non-Botox Options for Sweating

At SWEAT GUARD, we understand sweating and the challenges posed by hyperhidrosis

The physiology of the condition, the physical and mental effects sufferers have to endure. Our founder suffered from severe hyperhidrosis, that is why we have developed a range of “no sweat” products. We believe with effective non-evasive, non-Botox, first-line treatments, you can manage excessive sweating.

Before you embark on second-line treatments like Botox (botulinum toxin type A) injections, we suggest you try our range of first-line clinical strength treatments.

Scientifically Formulated Antiperspirants: Stay Dry & Comfortable

SWEAT GUARD antiperspirants stop excessive sweating because of the active ingredients. Each of our antiperspirants is created for the area of the body being treated. Aluminium Chloride based antiperspirants are often designed for normal sweating people. Our innovative formula does NOT contain Aluminium Chloride. Rather, it is scientifically formulated to ensure your sweat ducts, which are programmed to produce excess sweat, are blocked. And our antiperspirant formulation is effective without the skin irritation common with other products.

The SWEAT GUARD Guide to Targeted Sweat Defence

Triple Absorbent Sweat Pads: The Solution!

We developed and invented our original, underarm sweat pads for people who sweat excessively. The challenge was to develop a specialty pad that was more absorbent than those on the mass market designed for normal sweating people. We wanted a pad that was triple absorbent yet discrete, but also one which can be put in place easily, remains in place and is removed easily.

SWEAT GUARD sweat pads achieve these objectives. And More!

The Botox Bind: Underarm Sweat Pads

Our underarm sweat pads absorb 3 times the volume of sweat than standard pads. They are Triple Absorbent. We have designed them for those of us who suffer from excessive sweating.

The sweat pad fabric locks away the moisture. Removing it from the skin and the bacteria that act on sweat to produce odour. Regular use of our sweat pads will help with the reduction of body odour.

Following on from the success of our underarm sweat pads, we created the butterfly breast sweat pad. Ideal for absorbing cleavage and “under boob sweat”. These can be worn all day, night or during a workout. Tuck them into a standard bra, sports bar, or crop top. You won’t know they are there.

Combat Sweat and Bacteria with Antibacterial Soap

The combination of sweat, bacteria, and dead skin cells can create an ideal environment for bacterial and fungal growth on the skin. Using an antibacterial deodorant soap can help maintain better overall hygiene. Reducing the risk of skin infections or irritations.

SWEAT GUARD's specially crafted soaps and gel are a game-changer for anyone seeking ultimate freshness.

Antiperspirants and sweat pads provide immediate relief. An antibacterial deodorant soap can offer extended protection between applications of the other products. This can be especially useful during the day when sweat and bacteria accumulation can occur.

SWEAT GUARD’s soaps and body wash are gentle and non-irritating, using the finest blend of essential oils. We have three options for you to choose from.

The HSE Recommends Iontophoresis Treatment

The HSE and NICE recommend treating hyperhidrosis with an Iontophoresis machine

Iontophoresis is a treatment that utilises water to conduct a mild electrical current through the skin's surface. It's used for hyperhidrosis affecting armpits, hands and feet. Patients place their hands or feet in a shallow tray of water while a device sends a small electric current. For armpits, special water-absorbing underarm pads are used. This current and the minerals in the water work together to help block the sweat from reaching the skin's surface. The treatment is administered several times a week in Phase 1, then reduced to a maintenance schedule.

The process is safe and effective.

Iontophoresis Treatment for Excessive Sweating

Studies have shown the treatment improves quality of life. 80-90% of patients see results after only 2 weeks. It can bring you back to normal in a short period, without the use of Botox injections, medicines, surgery or any serious side effects.

Our machines are CE marked medical devices. This is based on extensive testing and certification to comply with all the UK and European Regulations and to ensure safety and effectiveness in use.
